Hands up those of you that still believe graffiti is the same as vandalism.<\/p>\n

If you did put up your hand, I really wish you had been around on Saturday to watch and hear some of KZN\u2019s top urban artists as they shared their passion with anyone willing to to give them the time \u2013 and where better to do so than the BAT Centre which has been an important for artistic expression in the Durban CBD.<\/p>\n

Six KZN street artists \u2013 CJ, Sakhile Mhlongo, Robyn Perros, Silindokuhle Makhubo and Mook Lion \u2013 showcased their talent on Saturday afternoon, drawing inspiration from the theme \u201cProudly KZN\u201d.<\/p>\n

As crowds gathered to watch an unfolding story in a kaleidoscope of colours, the artists produced a work of art that reflected their individual personalities and techniques.<\/p>\n

Hosted by KZN radio station East Coast Radio, the event was aimed at providing a platform to create awareness around the urban art form and the stories of some of the province\u2019s most talented artists.<\/p>\n

This initiative was about acknowledging some the city\u2019s \u201cunsung heroes\u201d says ECR Marketing Manager, Ren\u00e9e Burton.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe role that the arts play in shaping both the city and the province at large, is often overlooked. We want to change that, starting today,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The the completed artwork on display certainly put paid to the notion that graffiti is synonymous with vandalism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not just art \u2013 but a form of social expression that influences the narrative of popular culture,\u201d says Burton.<\/p>\n
