Things to do in Durban this holiday<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Our kids are off on a three-week adventure overseas, while we stay home in Durban.<\/p>\n

Now is the perfect opportunity to explore our city\u00a0like we\u2019ve never done before. This time it\u2019s all about things to do in Durban without our kids \u2013 a novel idea indeed!<\/p>\n

Take a tour<\/h3>\n

As I trolled websites, I came across Street Scene, a tour company that offers a glimpse of Durban (as well as KZN) \u2013 with a funky twist.<\/p>\n

From walking tours of the city to shebeen and heritage experiences and swimming with sharks, Street Scene offers a variety of packages that are reasonably priced. I\u2019ve booked for day-long township\/city tour of Durban. We will be visiting the city centre, Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s house, John Dube\u2019s home, a spaza shop and KwaMashu, home to Sbu\u2019s Tavern.<\/p>\n

Street Scene promises a \u201ccomplete \u2018Durban in a day\u2019 adventure for those who want a big bite of life instead of a nibble\u201d. Look out for a review of this tour soon.<\/p>\n

Build a sandcastle<\/h3>\n

Durban\u2019s warm, clean beaches are a huge attraction during the entire year, but more so in December.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re spoilt for choice \u2013 the only requirement is getting to your preferred spot first. This holiday, I plan on spending a day on the beach \u2013 building a sandcastle, swimming in the super-warm sea and maybe playing in a rock pool or two.<\/p>\n

Visit the Moses Mabhida Stadium<\/h3>\n

A trip to Durban cannot be complete with a visit to the iconic Moses Mabhida stadium.<\/p>\n

Hire a Segway for a leisurely amble along the beachfront, brave the swing from the famous arch or simply enjoy the magnificent view from the top.<\/p>\n

Don’t miss Dolphins by Starlight<\/h3>\n

Whether you have kids or not, uShaka Marine World is always a fun experience. The cool aquarium and sizzling water park are great places to visit. And there is the Dolphins by Starlight event.<\/p>\n

The theme of this year\u2019s production is \u201cA Festive Fusion\u201d and, of course, the stars of the show will be the dolphins, including Durban\u2019s much-loved Gambit.<\/p>\n

Dolphins by Starlight begins on Thursday, December 8, and ends on Tuesday, December 13.<\/p>\n

The show will also include a fundraising SMS call to action campaign to raise funds for underprivileged children who cannot celebrate Christmas this year. \u00a0All you do is\u00a0SMS DBS2016 to 42550 (SMSs cost R30 and the proceeds will go to Addington Children\u2019s Hospital).<\/p>\n

Tickets are available at Computicket<\/a> or via uShaka\u2019s online ticketing website<\/a>\u00a0at a cost of R170 for adults and R140 for children.<\/p>\n
