Many things give it away <\/span>\u2013 the quotes in the headline, the definition at the beginning of the novel.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a novel about people who believe they are adults \u2013 mature and perfected \u2013 but who, in reality, are not.\u00a0<\/span>And to be honest, how can you have \u201cnormal\u201d family once parents divorce? Really? Really!<\/span><\/p>\n

Claire and Matt are divorced and have a daughter Scarlett. They decide that, in spite of their divorce, they would have a \u201cnormal\u201d family Christmas together \u2013 along with their new partners and Scarlett\u2019s imaginary rabbit friend, Posey (the irony of this name did not escape me).<\/span><\/p>\n

Claire arrives at Happy Forest Holiday Park with her new boyfriend, Patrick, and Matt joins them with Alex, the \u201clove of his life\u201d. And if you think three is a crowd, five (or six if you count Posey) promises to be a stampede.<\/span><\/p>\n

What ensues is organised fun during the day followed too much alcohol and oversharing into the night. <\/span><\/p>\n

By now you get the picture \u2026 not much adulting happens in this novel. Well, not much admirable adulting happens in this novel.<\/span><\/p>\n

This \u201cnormal\u201d holiday will end with a call to the police. Someone will lay bleeding at Happy Forest after being shot with an archer\u2019s bow. <\/span><\/p>\n
