Well, who would have thought.<\/p>\n

According to smart device repair specialists, iFix, two thirds of South Africans admit they\u2019re addicted to their cellphones.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure which is more fascinating \u2013 that iFix actually did a study on this phenomenon or that there such a thing called cellphone addiction.<\/p>\n

According to iFix, more than a third of the people surveyed say they would miss their phone more than their partners! Even more perturbing is the fact that 68% say that, in the course of a day, they look at their cellphones more often than their partners.<\/p>\n

So I\u2019ve heard of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and TMI (Too Much Info), but FOBO and PSA are the new on the list.<\/p>\n

FOBO is the Fear of Being Offline, while \u2013 wait for it \u2013 PSA is Phone Separation Anxiety.<\/p>\n

The aim of this iFix survey was to determine the prevalence of FOBO and PSA among South Africans.<\/p>\n

In a nutshell, the results of the study shows we are way too dependent on our cellphones.<\/p>\n

Here are some rather worrying key findings:<\/p>\n

74% – can\u2019t leave the house without their phones<\/p>\n

71% – prefer sharing their life through their phone (social media or texting for example) rather than face-to-face<\/p>\n

77% – check their phone regularly without reason<\/p>\n

56% – check their cellphones first thing in the morning<\/p>\n

54% – check their phone more than 3 times an hour<\/p>\n

18% – check their phone more than 10 times an hour. That\u2019s almost twice every 10 minutes for an hour<\/p>\n

48% – socialise most on their phones<\/p>\n

52% – spend more than 3 hours a day on their phone<\/p>\n

13% – spend more than 10 hours a day on their phone<\/p>\n

54% – get annoyed or agitated when someone else uses their phone<\/p>\n
