Think old-world, colonial opulence – this is what Lambert House, a new boutique guest house in Lambert Road, Morningside, exudes.
As you walk up the stairs from the car park, a palm tree-lined walkway leads you up to the grand house that has been redecorated and fitted out to offer guests comfort and serenity.
I just loved the large bookshelf in the entrance hall – filled with many of the latest novels by Jodi Picoult, Lesley Pearce, James Patterson and more. For a lover of reading, there is nothing better than to walk into a home that is filled with books that I might want to curl up in a lounge or bedroom with. Books invoke a sense of comfort and leisure and the owners, Willard Maseko and Lisa Woodhouse, certainly had this in mind when they embarked on their revamp of Lambert House.
On the ground floor there’s a formal lounge set for high tea, a bar area to enjoy an evening cocktail, and a magnificent and an inviting open-plan kitchen that begs for guests to pull up a chair, drink a coffee and chat with Maseko, as he whips up a culinary delight.
With four beautifully decorated and individually styled en suite bedrooms on the upper level of the main house, as well as a larger ‘family’ room over the garage, guests are spoilt for choice in terms of what they are looking for. Each room has its own charm an allure. The master bedroom exudes opulence and decadence. But for me it’s the bathroom that always gets me in – and I just loved one of the smaller rooms with the most stunning old-world bathrooms I’ve ever seen.
I think what sets Lambert House apart from other guest houses, is the attention to detail and luxury. Charlotte Rhys toiletries, magnificent water bottles and glasses and porcelain tea cups, flat screen TVs – these are available in each room. Don’t expect cheap sachet coffee during your stay, not even in your bedroom.
For outdoor entertainment there is a choice of two heated pools, comfortable deck chairs to enjoy the view of the city or take in some sun as well as a vast veranda to enjoy a chat by the fire or breakfast outdoors.
Lambert House opens its doors on July 1, but is already fully booked during that month and halfway into August. Whether it’s a business stop-over or a base from which to explore Durban you’re looking for, this charming guest house will offer you opulence and comfort – a home away from home.[contact-form-7 404 "Not Found"]
