Durban’s Good Food & Wine Show around the corner

The Durban Good Food & Wine Show kicks off on October 30 at the Durban Exhibition Centre. Run in association with Durban Tourism it promises celebrity chefs galore, book signings, Q&A’s and what is a food show in Durban without the Big Durban Curry Cook-Off.

JSomething_1And if you’re a fan of Mi Casa – one of SA’s hottest music trios – you will be interested in this little fact: lead singer, Joao Fonseca (aka J’Something) will join a host of international chefs at the show as he cooks up a storm.

Swapping microphone for oven mitts, you can catch J’Something in the Celebrity Chefs Theatre on Friday, October 30, at 12.50pm and the well.i.am kitchen the next day at 12.20pm. He will also be doing a Q&A session at the SABC3 stand at the show on the Friday at 3pm.

Foodies out there will know that J’Something is not new on the cooking scene. His 13-episode Something’s Cooking TV series was a huge success and reached over 2 million viewers. He recently hosted another cooking show – What’s For Dinner – on SABC 3 that reached more than 10 million viewers.

Asked what he will be cooking at the show in Durban, his response is: “It’s a surprise, but trust me it will be delicious and simple.  It will be down to earth and – more than anything else – my demo will be the most fun out of all of them.”

Other international chefs to look out for at the Durban Good Food & Wine Show include Rick Stein, Brent Owens, Reza Mahammed and Renae Smith. Some of the best local chefs including Jenny Morris, Asha Maharaj, Executive Chef of Hartford House, Constantijn Hahndiek, Durban Curry author Erica Platter, Executive Chef of The Oyster Box, Hotel Kevin Joseph, Head Chef of the Sun Coast Towers Hotel, Sandren Govender, Sheila Somers, and Peter Ayub will also be at the show.
