Way to go Mattel – it’s taken you over half a century to acknowledge that women come in an array of colours, shapes and sizes. The introduction of a black Barbie in 1980 was simply not sufficient.
No doubt this makeover is linked directly to declining sales of the doll – fewer parents and children are getting sucked into the stereotype they’re being sold.
